Are you suffering from osteoporosis?

Are you suffering from osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis literally means "porous bone." As we age, our bones naturally lose thickness and strength. Osteoporosis leads to an increased risk of fractures (breaks). Called the "silent crippler," osteoporosis often progresses without symptoms or pain until a fracture occurs.

To check if you are at risk of osteoporosis, answer the following questions. If you answer Yes to more than three, see your GP.

Do you spend more than 10 minutes a day outdoors?

Is your BMI less than 21?
Have either of your parents broken a hip after a minor fall?
Have you had an early menopause?
Have you missed periods for more than six months as a result of over-exercising or dieting?
Do you have a history of thyroid or other hormonal problems?
Did you eat a poor diet low in calcium (lacking in dairy products, green leafy vegetables) as a teenager or even now?
Do you drink lots of soft drinks?
Do you smoke more than ten cigarettes a day?
Do you drink more than 3 alcoholic drinks a day?
Do you play sports or exercise less than twice a week?
Do you have a close relative with osteoporosis?

A Nutritious diet plan along with lifestyle modification can go a long way in preventing osteoporosis.
